Having become somewhat of a baal t'shuva at the age of 27 I have experienced life on both sides of the secular/religious divide. I appreciate that there are many things to be valued in secular culture within the framework of a Jewish life. Living one block from the ocean in Far Rockaway, I enjoy biking on the boardwalk, walking the beach and occasionally kayaking on the water. I work out at a local gym 2-3 times a week so at age 64 I'm still fairly fit and trim. I am a cerebral person (maybe to a fault, by overthinking too many things)...nonetheles s, my 8-year old daughter and her best friend think I'm the funniest person alive. I tell my daughter that we are two "loony toonies": she loves to do her "goofy dance" on the beach, and as for me, making her and her friends laugh with my antics is a priority in life.
