I am passionate about my hobbies. I love to travel, see the world, speak foreign languages, play oldies and folk music on my guitar (especially 12-string). I have lived in France three times and still miss the place. When I travel, I tend to go by myself because I relish the challenge of finding my way in a foreign culture on my own. I am a political junkie. I can't tear myself away from history books and almost never miss the weekend politics shows. Nonfiction writing and nature photography are also major interests of mine. My apartment is decorated with photos I have taken of erupting geysers in Iceland, Churchill's estate in Oxfordshire on an overcast autumn afternoon, and Loch Lomond at the foot of the Scottish highlands in twilight. I just finished working on a book on the Vietnam War entitled To Oppose Any Foe: The Legacy of U.S. Intervention in Vietnam (search for it on Amazon--I'm proud of it!). Generally, I like spending time with kind, interesting, and generous people who have a good sense of humor.
