About Me
Hey there! I'm Adam. I grew up in Newton, MA, the youngest of three children (two older sisters) in a liberal, well-educated, and Jewish family. Just to get it out of the way early, I would not call myself a practicing Jew. I'm not really very religious at all in the practicing sense, however I am intrigued by religion as a concept and am certainly not turned off by someone who is religious (and conversely, not necessarily attracted to someone who is not religious). I went to school at Bates College in Lewiston, ME, and graduated in '07. I majored in Psychology with somewhat of a minor in Music. I would say that these two subject matters tie closely with my two passions in life: my job and basically anything related to music. As for the former, I am the Assistant Director of Potter Place, a clubhouse in Waltham, MA. The clubhouse model of psychosocial rehabilitation, in short, focuses on the strengths of the individuals whom we serve, who all have a serious and persistent mental illness, as opposed to the pathology that hinders them. We integrate our members (aka clients in more traditional models of rehabilitation) into the work of the day, the work that is necessary for the survival of the clubhouse itself, while always keeping the bigger picture in mind and helping them find their place in the larger community. And we do all of this together. That's kind of it in a nutshell, I could probably bore y'all all day with the ins and outs of the philosophy, but I won't. On a lighter note, I love Boston sports, playing guitar, going to concerts, skiing, exercising (although I'm certainly no body builder or marathon runner), and, while I'm still learning, I do enjoy cooking.
