About Me

I am nearing the completion of my PhD and, as such, have basically lived in a basement for the last three years... I have missed things like movies, the great New Mexico outdoors (especially taking my dogs to the Jemez), riding my scooter around just for the fun of it, and conversation that extends beyond psychology, the brain, or graduate school (though of course those topics are not off-limits). I have some catching up to do...What I value most in others are the usual suspects: integrity, thoughtfulness, a wicked sense of humor... but the most impressive (to me) is an ability to think for yourself.I lived in California for many years and developed some tastes while living there that have persisted to this day. I am a Mac person (I hate how PCs yell at you). I love spelunking and rock climbing, though I have done neither in the last four years and I am scared of both heights and tight spaces (Emerson said always do what you are afraid to do). I am somewhat nerdy, and this on several levels. I love playing video games where you get to shoot zombies (really, I'm a pacifist). I also think the brain is really interesting and get excited when talking about the cerebellum (NOT just a motor area!). And I know what the Horta is (that one is old school). You see? Nerdy.I love a darker, Tim Burtonesque sort of humor. My BA is in English, but I am almost a neuropsychologist, so I read a wide variety of things that range from Austen to medical journals. English majors (even ones that go on to become psychologists--this happens more than you'd think!) usually begin or end something with a meaningful quote, so here goes:"The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man." --George Bernard Shaw
