I've spent my whole life in Mediterranean climates. In college (Stanford) I studied Arabic and the Middle East, and I now work in the energy business internationally. I recently started an oil and gas company and so far we have been focused on developing projects in East Africa.
I love traveling -- especially the thrill of visiting somewhere new for the first time -- but lately I've wondered if it also makes sense to go back over and over to the same great places. Favorite countries to visit so far are Italy, Russia, and Bahrain...I also travel for work and always try to arrive a day early to explore
Other things I like:
Taschen art books -- Kind of elitist but for a decent cause...
Bulk section, Whole Foods Market -- Wild rices, rare lentils, and other dry goods brimming from containers. Ballpoint pens and plastic bags shoppers hovering around sneaking samples. A kind of mundane spectacle.
Paisleys and argyles
