About Me
Hmmm - well according to this compatibility profile thing I just took I'm a "BLUE" which apparently means I'm a "Do-Gooder." ok - seems a little melodramatic, but I'll take it. There are worse things to be classified as. Makes me sound like I should be running around with a cape. Actually - that's an interesting thought. You just don't see that many people wearing capes anymore. I think I might be able to pull it off...
Rather than try to itemize my qualities I decided to cheat a little and ask some of my friends how they would describe me. This is what they came up with: great friend, productive, good person, freakishly smart (their words - not mine), great sense of humor, hard-working, responsible, funny, loyal, articulate. In addition to that I'd add slightly irreverent, contemplative, and occasionally a little wacky. I definately like to make people laugh, even if its at my own expense. Also I can't spell and my penmanship is terrible.
I like to try to exercise both halves of my brain, and while I've always been a very technical kind of guy (I like science, I like to understand how things work, I'm mechanically inclined) I'm also very creative. That's probably what appeals to me about my job as a software engineer. I'm pretty handy around the house - I can build you a bookshelf, tune up your car, or show you how to make your dvd player "region free" so you can play dvds from Europe. I love to learn new things and explore new places. Actually that's something I haven't done nearly enough of in recent years and I'm hoping to change that.
I'm also the master of the Freudian Slip. The issue seems to be that I think much faster than I can talk, so sometimes parts of the conversation I have in mind get optimized out and I wind up saying some pretty strange things. Worse - I often don't realize when I do it, so when I get a really weird look from someone I'm talking to I usually have to ask them what I just said. Its ok - it usually gets a chuckle which makes my mild embarassment worth it.
Beyond that - hmmm, let's see. Well - I pretty much write exactly the way I speak conversationally, so if you're wondering what its like to talk with me - you can imagine a voice in the back of your mind speaking these little descriptive snippets to you. Of course, recognize that if you succeed that means you're hearing voices which might not be so good... Better still - just shoot me a message and we can have a real conversation :)
