Image you're in small boat, speeding through the Caribbean off the coast of Cozumel. In the boat are six strangers who all have a confused and slightly concerned look on their faces. Maybe it’s because when you signed up for “Snorkeling Booze Cruise Excursion” with the locals on Playa del Sol, you envisioned a party boat with bartenders, not a bass boat that barely holds 8. “What about all you can drink?” you questioned. “Right there!” A small cooler was pointed out and inside was a variety of Mexican beers you’ve never heard of. “Fair enough!” As the boat speeds through the green, clear water heading to the middle of nowhere you’re listening to the guide give instructions for snorkeling. By the way, the instructions are basically common sense, “Put on your mask and snorkel, fins and jump in the water to see pretty fish!” No lifejacket! No slide to get in the water. The intense backflip into the water would only do here. You arrive at the reef. The guide says, “Let’s snorkel!” and jumps in the water. Everyone is staring at each other with a WTF look on their faces. What do you do?
That ended up being one of the best snorkeling trips I took. I love taking adventurous trips where safety is number 10 or so on the priority list lol.
