About Me

First about my profile name, no I am not Greek. It means Derek's tia or Derek's aunt. I'll start by saying that I can't believe I'm on yet another dating website again! I'm taking a deep breath as I embark on this new yet all too familiar adventure...Next, I must say that I am NOT Jewish. Why am I on this site then? WelI, having grown up on Long Island, I have known many Jewish "boys". I have found that they are some of the best guys around! My brother in law is a perfect example. He is the best husband and father I can imagine! I am a college professor of English and an ESL instructor. I enjoy teaching my students, most of whom are international. I attended the University of Virginia for my B. A. and Cornell for my M. F. A. I have been living in Astoria most of my adult life. I have a healthy lifestyle and am looking for someone like-minded. I enjoy reading The NYTimes and keeping informed of current events. I love biographies because I love to read about real people. My favorite president is Lincoln because how can you not admire that amazing, long suffering man who did so much to advance humanity? I am always open to self-improvement and want to continually learn more about how I can be my best self. I'm very interested in child psychology--how we evolve into the selves we become, and how we can use the past to empower (rather than regret) the present! I am looking for a man who can be a lifelong partner. I would prefer a man who has been married before because I have met one too many commitment phobes! But I am open to single men who, like me, have never been married, due to one reason or another, especially because of unresolved issues that we have hopefully, with a lot of therapy and grueling mental self reflection, have been working on most of our adult lives to overcome. Most importantly, I have great hopes for the future, knowing the best is yet to come.
