I am a scientist by education, computer engineer by trade, artist at heart, creator of objects (some even useful -) ). I have the best job in the world, at what I consider to be the best federal agency there is, and I am very lucky to work with a lot of close friends. I am also lucky that I can leave work at work, and being able to do so at a boringly usual hours.
I think the word “friend” has a special meaning. It takes a while for me to call someone a friend, because once I do, I will drive 120 miles through the snow storm to help a friend dig out his car from under 5 feet of snow. And cook him a duck with potatoes dinner afterwards, because there is no decent conversation without good food.
I am quite happy with most of my life. I have a few very close friends. I have two beautiful, sweet kids that I am very close with. I do a lot of things outside work: a bit of woodworking, pottery, fixing old houses, and other things that let me create things with my hands. I am very interested in psychology, and I am trying to learn as much as I can about it. It is very rewarding and intellectually stimulating.
What’s missing in this picture is a deep emotional and intellectual connection with a romantic companion, a life partner and a close friend. It is important for me to have all three in one. I have tried to get by on just one or two, and see where it got me? :-)
