If you are looking for a simple, ha-ha kind of funny, all-American guy who cannot decide what he likes more: beer or football, then you won't find him on this page.
I am a scientist by education, computer engineer by trade, artist at heart, creator of objects (some even useful -) ). I have the best job in the world, at what I consider to be the best federal agency there is, and I am blessed to work with a lot of close friends. I am also blessed with leaving work at work, and being able to do so at a boringly usual hours. But enough about boring usual things. :-)
One wonderful spring day I was coming home from the gym. It was a rainy spring but on that day sun was shining, and it was quite windy. From about a block away I saw that there is a tree down. I first thought it was neighbour’s tree and was preparing to say my condolences and offer my saw and my help to the neighbour, but when I drove in I realized what happened. One of my two old and huge silver maples fell right on my house. Fortunately, it only destroyed the front porch and a few windows. At first I thought I would cut it up for firewood. There are two fireplaces in the house, and I love a good conversation with friends in front of the fire in the winter. But when I started cutting it something happened. Have you ever smelled fresh cut wood? It is a beautiful smell. Every tree has a different smell. This one was a bit sweet and it smelled of spring wind. And it was beautiful inside. So I just had to learn how to saw wood into boards and how to dry it properly. In the end I made two doors and a whole bunch of really cool looking things in the house from it. You can see me turning this maple log in one of my pictures.
I think the word “friend” has a special meaning. It takes awhile for me to call someone a friend, because once I do, I will drive 120 miles through snow storm to help a friend dig out his car from under 5 feet of snow. And cook him a duck with potatoes dinner afterwards, because there is no decent conversation without good food.
What turns me on are people whose hearts are deep and loving, who have an insatiable interest in the world around them, and a better understanding of it.
Too many people are unsure of what they want, unable to connect deeply on either intellectual or emotional planes, but you aren't and neither am I.
If you are interested, don't be afraid to say "hi", I'll take it from there. Who knows? I might like you too. At the very least, maybe we can be friends.
There's a lot more to know and I would tell you more -- but it wouldn't allow me to leave you on the edge of your seat wondering what a real Renaissance man has to offer. :-)
