About Me
I tend to ask a lot of questions, and I listen to the answers. I am calm in a crisis, and generally resourceful in most situations. I'm a writer, editor, consultant and teacher. (I don't think we're defined by our careers, but I like what I do.) I've never been married, and anyone who's 51 and never been married and thinks he knows exactly why is probably fooling himself. But I have some ideas, and a fair number of my ex-girlfriends have tried to fix me up, so I don't think the situation is hopeless. I always expected to have kids, but I try to own the consequences of my decisions and am open to all sorts of possibilities: having my own with someone I meet, growing to love her kids if more are not in the cards or just continuing to focus on my nephews and nieces (and great nephews and nieces), a great source of joy since I became an uncle at 12. I was raised to believe that generosity of spirit should inform most choices and actions, and trying to help fix the world is a big part of who I am. If I can make someone laugh, all the better. I come from a large family and have a full social life, but I know how to make time for people that matter. I play touch football in the winter. I travel often. I see a lot of movies and plays. I read a lot. Yoga changed my life.
