About Me
I am a professor of English and Jewish Studies (which includes these days philosophy and psychology) at a research institution in central Indiana. I direct the Classical Studies program there and teach among other courses (Hebrew) Bible as literature, literary theory, and modern Jewish thinking. I grew up in Philadelphia, got a Ph.D. at SUNY Buffalo, and have taught at universities in Ithaca, Ann Arbor, Walla Walla, Orono, and currently West Lafayette. I play piano (show music, light jazz). I was married for 12 years (until 1982), and I joined this site (initially at the request of my children) as an alternative to the customary ways of meeting people. Most of the secondary pictures I have posted were taken in the summer of 2005 at a conference I was attending in Germany (I am more often in France). The primary picture was taken in the fall of 2009. I love all things French and try to spent some time in France every year.
