1. Adam Levine Swears He’s Patriotic

Adam Levine is desperate to take back a negative comment he made about America on The Voice last week.

The Jewish crooner was caught on a microphone muttering “I hate this country,” after Judith Hill and Sarah Simmons were ousted from the NBC singing competition by the popular vote. His remark drew quick reaction online, with many criticizing Levine for what he said.

Levine gave Us Weekly a statement though, saying “I obviously love my country very much and my comments last night were made purely out of frustration.”

2. Jewish Performer Sings Her Way to the Finals on The Voice

Speaking of Adam Levine and The Voice, one of the top 6 contestants on the show is a stand-out Jewish singer!

Michelle Chamuel is a Massachusetts native whose audition song, a cover of the Katy Perry hit “I Kissed a Girl,” had three of the four judges clamoring to get her on their team! She chose to join Team Usher and quickly became one of America’s favorites.

Chamuel says she is “a mix of Jewish-Arab-Russian-eastern European.” You can hear some of her music here.

3. Daniel Radcliffe Wants to be a Baby Daddy

Who says only women feel their biological clock ticking?! While he’s just 23 years old, Daniel Radcliffe says he wants to start a family in the next few years.

“I’d like to get started on it before my thirties,” the Jewish actor tells Time Out: London magazine in its June issue. “I like the idea of being a youngish parent so I’ve got energy to play football – even though they’ll be better than me by the time they’re four.”

Besides wanting to grow a family, however, Radcliffe also reportedly wants a brood of tattoos. We’re guessing the tattoos will come first…

1. Daniel Day-Lewis Makes Oscar History

Daniel Day-Lewis took home the Best Actor Oscar for his performance in Lincoln at the 2013 Academy Awards last night. However, the half Jewish actor is not only celebrating his monumental win, but also the fact that he is the only man in history to win the Best Actor Oscar three times.

Los Angeles Times Film Critic Betsy Sharkey says Day-Lewis definitely deserved to win last night, writing, “So deeply did the actor delve into the character in Steven Spielberg’s film, any essence of Day-Lewis, the man, ceased to exist. He carried us back in time with him and gave us a seat at the table as the president pushed, prodded and finally demanded that his Cabinet, the Congress and the nation accept the 13th Amendment ending slavery.”

Day-Lewis has been nominated in the best actor category five times in all, winning for My Left Foot in 1990 and There Will Be Blood in 2008.

2. Daniel Radcliffe & Joseph Gordon-Levitt Cut a Rug

Daniel Radcliffe and Joseph Gordon-Levitt broke out their dancing shoes for the opening number of the Oscars. Host Seth MacFarlane corralled the two Jewish performers for a soft-shoe/sung-danced version of the song “High Hopes.”

It seems as though that performance may have even sparked a new “bromance” between the two actors. Joseph Gordon-Levitt later added a Facebook pic of himself and Radcliffe from backstage at the Oscars writing, “Me + Mr. Radcliffe. #Gangster. #Oscars.”

3. Streisand Makes Her Return to the Oscars

Barbra Streisand returned to the Oscar stage last night, singing “The Way We Were” as a tribute to late composer Marvin Hamlisch (the song won an Oscar as Best Original Song in 1973). The Jewish singer belted out the number just after the awards’ In Memoriam segment.

E!online reported Barbra shared many kind words about her departed friend, Hamlisch (who was also Jewish), with whom she collaborated to write the song, “The Way We Were.”

“Marvin Hamlisch was a composer of extraordinary depth and versatility,” Streisand reportedly said. “He was also a very kind and generous friend who could always make me laugh. Over the years, we shared many adventures together. Marvin left us way too soon, but I’ll always have those wonderful, wonderful memories.”

1. Debra Messing Gets A Second Act

There’s smashing news for Debra Messing’s new show, Smash. The musical drama series was just picked up for a second season on NBC.

The Jewish actress is obviously loving her role on the series, Tweeting things like, “Bernadette Peters singing acapella right in front of my face? A highlight of my life. Pure genius, a thing of power and beauty. #Smash.”

Smash debuted last month with ratings that were not smashing, but perhaps that will change with next season’s second act!

2. A New Beat For Daniel Radcliffe

Daniel Radcliffe is stepping out to a new beat this spring. The Harry Potter actor, whose mother is Jewish, is taking on a new role as Beat Generation poet, Allen Ginsberg. The movie, Kill Your Darlings, is about a murder in 1944 that brings together the great poets of the Beat Generation, including Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac and William Burroughs.

Radcliffe may have just started filming, but he is already promoting the new film. He Tweeted on Thursday, “Kill your darlings is on set, I hope you like it, having a great time on filming, take care.” Can’t beat that!

3. Dancing With The Jewish Stars

ABC’s popular dance competition, Dancing With the Stars, premiered this week and features two Jewish stars! What have we learned so far? We’ve learned that this competition is making one of these contestants nervous and turning the other into a total cougar!

Dancer Karina Smirnoff Tweeted about her partner, Gavin DeGraw, earlier this week, “@GavinDeGraw is FREAKING out about Monday! :-) http://twitvid.com/NJE7Y.” DeGraw, whose maternal grandparents were of Russian Jewish descent, scored 20 points on last week’s show, putting him at the bottom of the rankings.

Another star, Melissa Gilbert, only scored 20 points as well. Gilbert, who was raised in her adoptive mother’s Jewish religion, say her dance partner, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, is bringing out the cougar in her! Writing for People magazine, Gilbert said, “He’s bringing out in me the sexy, confident, fiery redheaded cougar.” Somebody’s purring!
