1. Lea Michele’s Teary Tribute to Cory Monteith

Still mourning the loss of boyfriend Cory Monteith, Glee star Lea Michele dedicated her Choice TV Actress-Comedy prize at the Teen Choice Awards to the late actor on Sunday night. Michele, whose father is Jewish, has avoided interviews over the last few weeks, making this acceptance speech her first televised appearance since Monteith’s death last July.

“I wanted to dedicate this award to Cory,” Michele said while fighting back tears. “For all of you out there who loved and admired Cory as much as I did, I promise that, with your love, we’re going to get through this together.”

“He was very special to me, and also to the world, and we were very lucky to witness his incredible talent, his handsome smile, and his beautiful, beautiful heart,” she continued. “So whether you knew him personally or just as Finn Hudson, Cory reached out and he became a part of all of our hearts — and that’s where he’ll stay forever, so thank you guys so much.” You can watch her full acceptance speech here.

2. Cowell & Stern Are Both Raking It In

What do Simon Cowell and Howard Stern have in common besides their Jewish heritage? The two men are tied as the highest paid TV personalities in America according to Forbes Magazine.

As a record label boss and TV talent show mogul, Simon Cowell reportedly made $95 million between June of 2012 and June of 2013. That figure pushed him to the top of Forbes’ list, but it wasn’t enough to push past shock-jock Howard Stern who pulled in the same outrageously large sum. Interestingly, Stern also works on Cowell’s popular series America’s Got Talent. Looks like these two have talent… for making money, that is!

Other TV personalities who made the list include conservative talk show host Glenn Beck with $90 million, Oprah Winfrey with $77 million, and Dr. Phil with $72 million.

3. Chelsea Handler Breaks Down on Camera

Chelsea Handler broke down on camera when she found out her grandfather had served in World War II with the German army. The Jewish comedian was the subject of a recent episode of TLC’s show Who Do You Think You Are?, which helps celebrities investigate their ancestry.

“I’m very intrigued to find out how much participation my German grandparents had in the war,” Handler said. “My mother was German, she came over to America when she was 19 for the first time. My father, I guess, made a deal with my mother when they had children that they were gonna be raised Jewish. So I connect with my Judaism, or the Jewish side of my family, more than anything else.”

After digging into her family’s history, Handler discovered the truth about her German grandfather. “My grandfather served in the Second World War as a soldier. Whether or not he agreed with Hitler, he was serving in the Germany army. He was taken as a prisoner of war at some point to America, where he stayed for several years . . . When he went back to Germany he was very eager to come and take his family and move them back to the United States.”

Hollywood Yenta Roundup: Lea Michele, Drake and Scarlett Johansson…

1. Lea Michele Breaks Silence on Monteith Death

Glee star Lea Michele recently shared a heartbreaking photo of herself with boyfriend Cory Monteith. The photo, posted on Instagram and Twitter, marks the first time Michele has made any public statements since Monteith’s death from a drug overdose on July 13th.

Michele’s picture shows her and Monteith smiling happily while hugging each other. The caption reads: “Thank you all for helping me through this time with your enormous love & support. Cory will forever be in my heart.”

Michele, whose father is Jewish, released a statement through her publicist earlier this month. It read: “Lea is deeply grateful for all the love and support she’s received from family, friends, and fans. … (Michele and the Monteith family) are supporting each other as they endure this profound loss together.”

Glee creator Ryan Murphy announced that the show will air a special tribute episode to Monteith this fall.

2. Drake to Cut Autism Lyric from New Song

Drake announced he’ll remove a lyric that mentions autism from a new track he’s releasing with hip hop performer, J. Cole. In that song, Cole rapped, “I’m artistic,” while others are “autistic, retarded.” The words drew criticism, compelling both performers to apologize.

“Individuals with autism have brilliant and creative minds,” Drake wrote in a blog post last week. “And their gifts should not be disparaged or discounted. This was a learning lesson for both of us, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to try to right this wrong. J. Cole and I believe that it is the right, responsible, and respectful decision to remove the lyric from the song.”

3. The Truth Behind Scarlett Johansson’s New Bling

Scarlett Johansson has been seen sporting a shiny gold ring on her left ring finger several times in the last few months, causing rumors to swirl that the Jewish actress is engaged. In fact, ScarJo was spotted at LAX just last week wearing an ornate gold ring with two stones – a diamond and ruby.

But does that mean Johansson is planning to get hitched? Definitely not! The star’s reps say the engagement gossip couldn’t be further from the truth, reporting that she “is not engaged, nor close to being engaged.”

Johansson told ELLE UK that marriage is “really not important” to her. We wonder what French journalist boyfriend Romain Dauriac thinks about that statement…

Hollywood Yenta Roundup: Mila Kunis, Lea Michele and Drake…

1. From Friends to Lovers?

Rumors have been swirling for months that Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis are more than “just friends” — and now there may be proof that those rumors are true! Kunis, who is Jewish, was spotted kissing Kutcher at a party over the weekend.

Both actors were attending a wrap party for Kutcher’s much-anticipated movie, Jobs, and apparently spent the entire day cuddling, kissing and generally hanging all over each other atop a balcony in Hollywood. Kutcher, 34, and Kunis, 28, co-starred on the hit series That ’70s Show from 1998 to 2006. The two were first spotted hanging out in April, but maintained they were just friends.

2. Winner, Winner (Kosher) Chicken Dinner!

It was a huge night for Lea Michele at the 2012 Teen Choice Awards on Sunday night. The 25-year-old half-Jewish actress won the Choice TV Actress Comedy award for her work on Glee and the show itself took away three surfboard trophies.

Looking stunning in a structured silver Atelier Versace mini dress with trendy floral details, Michele could have won a fashion award as well (if those were given out)! Glee’s leading lady was also nominated for her work in New Year’s Eve.

3. Drake Makes Himself at Home

Hip-Hop’s Drake is moving on up! The practicing Jew recently bought a $2.8 million mansion in Hidden Hills, California. The community of Hidden Hills bills itself as a gated equestrian oasis, and has plenty of other high profile celebrity residents like Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, Denise Richards and Sinbad.

So what did Drake get for his $2.8 million purchase? A 12,500-square-foot modern castle with outdoor waterfalls, a built-in library, a game room, a wine cellar, and a home theater. The vast property, known as the Old Lion Manor, also includes a mechanical bull in a sandpit… and that’s no bull!

This Week’s Top Three Tweet-Worthy Events From Jews Who Make News

1.    People’s Choice Awards Include Three Jewish Winners

Quite a few Jewish stars were winners at the People’s Choice Awards on Wednesday night. Adam Sandler took home the Favorite Comedic Movie Actor award, Lea Michele snagged the Favorite TV Comedy Actress spot and Adam Levine’s Maroon 5 won the award for Favorite Band.

Jewish actress, Kat Dennings, was happy to see her new TV show, 2 Broke Girls win Favorite New TV Comedy. Dennings Tweeted on Thursday, “THANK YOU SO MUCH to everyone who voted…teamwork equals People’s Choice Award!!! Thank you thank you thank you for voting.”

2.    Two Shows, One Chelsea

Chelsea Handler is celebrating the debut of her second TV show, Are You There, Chelsea? The new comedy debuted on NBC last Wednesday. The show is based on Chelsea Handler’s 2008 book, Are You There, Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea.

The Jewish comedian/TV host/author now has a total of two television shows with Chelsea Lately still going strong on E! as well. Will this new show do as well as her first? That remains to be seen.

Handler Tweeted on Thursday, “Thanks for watching are you there, last night. The show gets better each week, I promise. I wouldn’t put my name on something unless I didn’t think is funny. So, stick it out and then in.”

3.    Zach Braff On JDate?

Don’t get too excited ladies. Jewish actor Zach Braff was obviously joking last Monday when he Tweeted, “Just tried to use my Jdate password to sign into my Christian Mingle account… awkward.”

Still, we’re encouraging him to give the Jewish girls what they want! Our social media team Tweeted this in response, “@zachbraff Seriously, you should join @JDate, you would clean up! Our members would be SO excited! Meet a nice, Jewish girl! #JDate”.

We haven’t heard a response from Braff yet, but perhaps Braff could be persuaded to join JDate if our female members ask nicely via Twitter! Here’s hoping!
