I haven't read parts 1 and 2 of this yet, but relationship skills aren't the only reason couples break up.

In my case I've been married 23 years (now separated for 2 of those), but our problems were for two reasons...I guess you can say communication problems was one of reasons. The other is that my wife has a sickness with spending money. She got us into tremendous amount of financial debt and refuses to take responsibility for any of it. This problem is more than just a problem with not using good relationship skills. She's in denial and refuses to go for any counseling because "there is no problem." Even after a bankruptcy she's back to the same spending habits (this time luckily without my name on a credit card).

Communication problems are definitely a big problem and that is probably relationship skill related. We have completely different values and ideas on raising children. And there was no prior communication on how we would raise the kids, handle discipline, etc.

But I believe that some couples were just not meant to be married.

What are you feelings on this?

My sister recently lost her busband and was thinking of starting to talk to men online 2 weeks after the death of her husband of over 45 years from a sudden illness. Prior to that they were happily amrried according to her own account and everyone who knew them. THis seems way, way too fast to me. What is your opinion?
