I loved this article Miriam. Thank you for sharing your experience from your childhood. Integrity, compassion and love are spiritual beings/levels of consciousness that we pass on to each other or that simply pass through us. When we are deeply connected to love and compassion within ourselves we can easily percieve how it is passed on to others. As our spiritual consciousness continues to evolve we learn to acknowledge and to experience great gratitude to those who taught us to connect to our true selves more deeply by the 'simple' fact that they were connected to theirs. These levels of consciousness are not fixed states. The spiritually minded individual is always trying to become a better person. I am sure that the look of recognition that you saw in that 'gangsters' eyes was a look of appreciation. You had done what he might have wanted to do but had been afraid of doing. Possibly you saved him from feeling like a coward and he thanked you for that. There does stand more of a chance that he will be the next one to intervene when he sees injustice being done around him.
We are all vessels for truths that belong to a world that is not bound by the physical. In other words we are one organism that either works together or self-destructs.
Thanks for introducing me to the term "Transformative Psychology". It is about time that psychology opened up its horizons to the world of soul and spirit! Psychology is often so focused on the 'self' and the 'ego' and it is spetz at diagnosing and stigmatizing and hashing and rehashing. Sounds to me like 'Transformative Psychology' is about introducing psychology to spirituality and mysticism and to the natural ways that the soul finds healing. Le-Chaim! To compassion and integrity and to life! Thanks for a great article!!
