Can JDate Help Me Find My Modern Orthodox Beshert?

Submitted by 3 Comments

Dear Rachel,

It seems most of my matches on JDate are culturally Jewish, not practicing members. I am Modern Orthodox and am looking for someone with shared values and practices.

Will it be worth my investment to subscribe to JDate? In other words, are there like-minded men available for me to meet on the site?

Dear Looking for My Modern Orthodox Beshert,

Thanks for your question! I get a lot of questions from JDate members about finding someone who shares their values (and in many cases, religious observance). JDate offers a wide array of preferences for you to choose from when it comes to searching for the kind of people you’d like to meet. From age, and location to kosher standards and temple attendance, we’ve got all your bases covered.

By selecting the preferences that matter most to you in your search for a mate, you will be able to view members who match exactly those preferences. That means you can set your search settings to find your perfect Modern Orthodox match!

A friend of mine recently became Frum (Orthodox) and just moved to Los Angeles. She’s already met a guy on JDate who shares her same values and practices! I say, why not give it a shot? You may just meet your Beshert!

Xo,

Rachel

Could you please have Mark Blumenthal get in touch with me? I search endlessly for amodern orthodox man with little result.

I have run into a dilemma similar to the one Inanna mentions.

Although I consider myself ‘ConservaDox’ leaning toward Modern Orthodox, most of the women who participate in JDate seem to consider themselves ‘culturally Jewish’.

I don’t have a clue what that means. I want a Jewish woman, whether by birth or by her choice, and the entire idea of ‘culturally Jewish’ sounds like something out of a Woody Allen movie.

I like his films just fine, even love several of them, but Jewish means some kind of lifestyle and personal participation in Jewish activities.

Also, I have a hard time figuring out what anyone else means by ‘date’ in 2013. Does it mean say ‘hi’? Does it mean ‘make friends with’? Does it mean ‘friends with privilges’? Does it mean looking for a life partner?

I was married for 23 years and am not dating for sport. I want to find a long term partner, preferably to marry if things work out well.

Unlike some men and women, I actually do know what I like and want in a potential mate. Surely the webmaster can configure the questions and the search engine to help me find a compatible match a little more easily than one that does not even recognize the preferences I check.

    Thanks!

My search results include about 30 men, of whom almost all say they keep kosher “not at all”. So I’m down to four possibilities, all of whom are looking for someone younger than I am.

It sounds to me as if jdate would be a waste of money for me.

Do you still think it’s worth my while to pay to contact either the men who have no interest in me, or the one man who has expressed interest in me but who is almost certainly one who keeps kosher “not at all”???
