10 Ways Movie Couples Met Their True Love

Submitted by 2 Comments

The other day I was thinking about how couples meet. It could be at a bar, at school, in the office through flirtation at a bar or a workplace party. How have the couples you know met? Do they love to tell that first impression story?

There are so many ways to meet the love of your life and many situations in which you can be thrown together. This train of thought got me thinking about romantic movies (which I love) and how couples often meet for the first time in those films. Here are 10 ways famous characters in movies meet. Perhaps you can make these reel situations real for yourself!

1. Opposites Attract

Sometimes (in life and film) we are attracted to our opposite, a person who can teach us about our undeveloped side. Here are a few cinematic examples of this:

  • Grease
  • Can’t Buy Me Love
  • Along Came Polly
  • Sweet November

2. Odd Circumstances/Fate

Sometimes you find someone when you least expect it through a series of coincidences that almost seem predestined. Here are some examples:

  • Serendipity
  • Fools Rush In

3. The Internet

Online dating can be a great way to meet someone new. Here are some films that depict this:

  • You’ve Got Mail
  • The Perfect Man
  • Must Love Dogs

4. The Crisis Collision

Many couples have met in an accident or during a stressful time. Sometimes challenging circumstances bring them together. Here are some examples:

  • The Wedding Planner
  • French Kiss
  • Hope Floats
  • The English Patient

5. Traveling Abroad

Sometimes when you expand your outer world, you expand your inner one as well. Getting out of your comfort zone can let in new experiences and people. Here are some examples:

  • The Holiday
  • Cocktail
  • Stealing Beauty
  • A Couch in NY
  • Hideous Kinky

6. While in Disguise

Sometimes when we are playing a role we learn to see things differently — and become open to a new type of relationship with others and ourselves. Here are some examples:

  • The Wedding Date
  • Desperately Seeking Susan
  • Never Been Kissed
  • Shallow Hal
  • Overboard
  • Miss Congeniality
  • Ever After

7. Friends Turned Lovers

We all know cases where friends turn into lifelong lovers. Here are a few cinematic examples:

  • Some Kind of Wonderful
  • Forrest Gump
  • There’s Something About Mary

8. The Road-Trip Rendezvous

The journey cross country has cast many a spell. Here are some examples:

  • The Sure Thing
  • When Harry Met Sally

9. A Shipwrecked Romance

Hopefully you can meet on an idyllic cruise, not the Titanic or on a deserted island. But you get the idea…

  • The Blue Lagoon
  • Titanic

10. Through a Major Life Change

A great time to meet someone is when you have undergone transformation because you are more powerful, attractive and open. Here are some examples.

  • Baby Boom
  • Raising Helen
  • Under The Tuscan Sun

Watch some of these romantic films and know that you can meet your Beshert in oh-so-many ways.  Sometimes it’s better to be surprised!

You almost made me cry with your comment above and it is only because if I have mascarha on that I stopped myself with difficulty but still my nose runs …..i have rushed home for lunch having spent the morning with my mother and am now about to leave to go into town to study at an Italian lesson. I assume from what you say that sadly the love of your life has passed away – I cannot imagine how difficult that must be when u have really loved. I have a different story to tell but still the absence of a partner of several years and the father of your children has been for me at least a very painful balancing act especially close to fours years later and about to finally start with solicitors and divorcing . I trust and hope your pain will not be forever because I am sure that this wonderful woman who has been so much a part of your life would like to believe one day you will find comfort, solace and love in HER ABSENCE. I wish you happiness once again in your life. Very kindest regards, Liza from London.

I do THANK the many women who have contacted me, and say how beautiful I LOOK ? I never knew a man could be a beautiful person ? I always though men were meant to be handsome and demure. My only response to a sweet compliment, is that I do LOVE women, and it was a woman who took excellent care of me in my first and only love of my life, for 37 years. I also came from a very beautiful woman, my MOTHER.
