Barrie and I met as all single, professional, busy Jews do: On JDate. After a few failed relationships, and upsetting dates, I had all but given up on finding love in this world. But before committing to a life of celibacy, I went on JDate and expanded my search options to Jewish women within 100 miles.
We met in November of 2011; I “hot listed” Barry, and he sent me a message almost right away. I broke every rule I had for myself, he asked me to hang out the following night and I said yes… normally, I would not have done so on such short notice.
Whether you are lighting Shabbos candles and hitting the Shul every week, or just love a bowl of matzoh ball soup while watching Seinfeld, there is something to be said for the bond we Jews share with one another. I will continue to sing JDate’s praises and feel lucky that it allowed me to find such an amazing woman!
Brooke had been browsing Ben’s profile and noticed that he worked at the same place and within the same department as her father. After seeing this, she decided to reach out to Ben. Ben, having just rejoined JDate, was excited to quickly find a message in his JDate mailbox.
Ofer and I met in October of 2003 on JDate. Our first meeting was at Cafe Mozart on 72nd Street. He was from Israel and was looking for someone who spoke Hebrew.
It used to pain me to admit that I met my wife online. As if I was too pathetic to find someone in the real world. I needed algorithms. How romantic! That was 10 years ago, before online dating was as ubiquitous as belly button rings on 13-year-olds.
I found Jason’s profile on JDate and was struck that he loved music and was studying to become a Rabbi. I immediately emailed him a message, letting him know just that, and that my mom is the cantor at my temple so I know all about that world.
After spending two years without being in a relationship, I decided to join JDate to meet my special someone. Meanwhile, Greg’s father purchased his subscription to JDate and encouraged him to give it a try.
As a going-away present from my roommate and lifelong friend, she gifted me a subscription to JDate – she was convinced I would meet the love of my life in Arizona. I was a very hesitant JDate user. Coming from a vibrant Jewish city to the “wild west” was difficult. Eric sent me a very non-threatening email, saying he was interested in meeting more Jewish people his age. (JDate users – non-threatening and friendly was key!) After numerous forward courtship requests, I decided to give Eric a fighting chance as my first-ever JDate!
The story of these two meeting was truly one of fate. Jenna “Flirted” with Eric one afternoon in February. He responded by reaching out to her via email, and they met in person a week later. What they came to discover on their first date (a five-hour coffee date) was that they went to the same high school and had the same mutual friends, yet somehow never managed to cross paths during those four long years.
