How many photos can I upload?

You are allowed to upload up to 12 photos and we recommend you do so. Profiles with photos typically get many more views than profiles without. So smile and say, “JDate success!”

I only want to view members who have photos. How do I do that?

At the top of the Search page, click on the check box that reads “Profiles with photos only.” This will modify your search results to show only members who have uploaded a photo. You can also set this in your Match Preferences so that all future searches will only show members with photos.

The JDate search bar shows how to find matches with photos.

My photo is cropped wrong and it looks like my face is cut off. How do I fix this?

Tall, skinny photos are not ideal on JDate, as the profile cards now automatically crop photos in a square. To avoid an awkward crop, we recommend you upload a new photo that is at least 350×350 pixels in size and that is not tall and skinny. A square photo will work, as will a normal portrait or landscape photo with your face centered and some padding between your face and the edge of the photo. You can crop your photos with a photo editor on your computer, or with an online tool like Fotor.

Tall and skinny photos don't work well on JDate.
To upload a new photo, visit the Edit Photos page by clicking on your Profile thumbnail in the top right corner of any page.

The full size, uncropped version of your photo will still be seen in the gallery view in your profile. As a reminder, group photos will not work as your main photo. For additional help, reach out to our Customer Service team.

My photos are blurry and pixelated. How do I fix this?

One of the perks of our new design on JDate is that images are larger and easier to see! If your photos are very small, however, they might look blurry and pixelated. To fix this, simply upload a new, larger photo. The minimum size is 350×350 pixels.

To upload a new photo, visit the Edit Photos page by clicking on your Profile thumbnail in the top right corner of any page.

What kind of photos should I upload? What photos are not acceptable?

The basic standards for our photos are:

1. Digital photos: photo must have a JPG or JPEG file extension
2. Minimum size: 350×350 pixels at 72 DPI
3. Maximum size: 5MB

Our general guidelines:

1. Your main photo should be a clear headshot of just you (no one else in the photo)
2. No copyrighted material (including cartoons)
3. No sexually suggestive photos (including men without shirts)
4. No altered photos

If one of your photos did not get approved and you have a question please contact Customer Service.

What should I write for my profile photo description?

When writing a description for your profile, here are two easy tips:

1. Refer to what’s going on in the photo to reiterate what you love about your life. Maybe you’re at the beach, with your dog or you’re playing a sport you love.
2. Smile on the inside (not just in your photo)! Online dating should be a fun experience. Why not offer up some ease and light humor when describing your photo? When you’re not super serious, you’ll find it will be easier to make a natural connection.

Why is my photo not showing?

Once your photos have uploaded, you will see “Awaiting Approval” to the right of each image. JDate will send you an email confirmation once each photo has been approved and posted to your profile. We try to get through all photo submissions quickly, but please allow 24-48 hours for approval. By reviewing every photo, we can continue to make the JDate online dating experience safe and enjoyable for all members.

Can I hide my profile while I search or browse?

Sometimes it feels safer to be incognito when you’re searching and looking at other JDater’s profiles. Turning this on makes it so that others will not know you’ve looked at their profile until you actually contact them. Please note that this does not make your profile invisible, as members can see you if they look at their past searches, Match emails, or if they perform a keyword or photo gallery search. This ensures that a potential beshert can still find you!

To show or hide the appearance of your profile in certain sections of the site, visit the Profile Display Settings page, or follow these steps:

1. Click on your Profile thumbnail in the top right of any page
2. Click on the Account Settings link
3. Click on the Profile Display Settings link
4. Find the “Show/Hide When You View Members” option and select “Hide”
