After spending two years without being in a relationship, I decided to join JDate to meet my special someone. Meanwhile, Greg’s father purchased his subscription to JDate and encouraged him to give it a try. I was living in Chicago at the time and thought surely I could meet someone within the Metro Chicago Area who would be a good match. After a few dates and responses, that special someone had not materialized.
Then one evening I got an icebreaker from someone in Florida. My first thought was why would I ever want to date someone in Florida? I really didn’t want a long-distance relationship. However, my curiosity got the best of me and I read the icebreaker. It said, “Hi, How are you? My name is Greg.” I decided to respond and within a few days, Greg and I exchanged phone numbers.
We had great conversations and during one conversation, I asked him to describe one dating experience he had using JDate. He described a terrible date which ended with him boxing up his date’s food and taking it home. I had tears in my eyes from laughing so hard.
Within a couple of weeks of regular conversation, Greg suggested that I come to Florida to visit. I still was not sure I wanted a long-distance relationship, but he was very persistent and I planned a visit. Once we met in person, we had more time to talk and, to my surprise, we found out we had so many things in common. After my return to Chicago, we graduated from phone calls to Skype. Both of us also realized that we wanted to be in an exclusive relationship with each other. So, my opposition to a long-distance relationship was put aside.
Greg and I decided to take the final step in our relationship – marriage. So, on November 15, 2013 (Greg’s birthday), we were married in Naples, Florida. Being that he is a major sports fanatic, he asked if we could have a sports jersey theme. As usual, I was a little hesitant, but then agreed. It was a wonderful day and we have JDate to thank for bringing us together.
