I joined JDate in November of 2007 after a long-term relationship came to an end. I knew I wanted to find a Jewish mate with a background similar to my own. I wrote a profile that was as honest and straightforward as I knew how to be. I wanted someone close to my age and looking for a long-term relationship. The person I was looking for had to be a liberal and had to be honest, but I didn’t have a long list of requirements beyond that! At my age (55 at the time), everyone has a past and baggage so you have to be open to the idea that the mate you find may not be everyone’s idea of Prince Charming.
I had five or six dates within the first month. I met some lovely men, but I knew none of them were “The One.” Sometime around the fourth week of my JDate adventure, I noticed a very handsome man had looked at my profile. I looked at his profile and discovered he was a year and a half younger than me. I had never considered dating someone younger and so I didn’t make contact with him.
About a week later the same good-looking guy pulled my profile up again. I showed his photo to a girlfriend and she encouraged me to write him. I sent him a short note around the second week of December in 2007. He wrote me back a few days later to say he wanted to meet, but his children were with him for the Christmas holiday. The following week after his children left, Bill called me. During our first conversation we discovered that we had at least six people in common (we both work in entertainment) and that we were, in fact, born in the same hospital!
On Dec 31st we met for our first date. From the start we knew we had found our other half. Neither of us ever went on another JDate!
