Joseph and Heather’s connection started with a coffee date that quickly turned into an afternoon and evening of conversation. They discovered a deep sense of trust and understanding early on, from shared stories to small acts of care. Their relationship blossomed into a proposal at the Tulsa Botanic Garden and a unique wedding that celebrated both their Jewish heritage and their love for “Lord of the Rings.”

How did you meet? What was your first date like?
Our first date was just a week or so after we exchanged messages—a simple afternoon coffee date. We had so much to talk about that we extended the date to include dinner at a Persian restaurant, followed by a stop at Trader Joe’s. We felt we could share things with each other that we’d never told anyone before.
Describe the moment you knew it was true love!
Heather knew when she saw me reading Hebrew at the Yom Kippur Ne’ilah service (our second date). For me, it was when she gave me advice about DIY repairs after my house flooded in a storm. I could tell she truly believed in me and that I could face new challenges.

What can you tell us about the proposal?
I proposed at the Tulsa Botanic Garden, with a sapphire ring and a short, memorized speech.
What can you tell us about the wedding?
Our wedding took place at our synagogue in Tulsa. Neither of us had had a Jewish wedding before, so it was important to place our heritage and faith at the center. The ceremony was traditionally Jewish, but the decorations had a “Lord of the Rings” theme, and we entered the reception hall to “The Shire” theme music.
What advice would you give other JDate members who are still looking for love?
First, make a list of five non-negotiable qualities that you must have in a partner. Second, look for someone who is unique in ways that are important to you.
