Summertime and the livin’ is easy! From a lighter workload and longer days to beach getaways and salty air, this is the best time of year. When I was living in NYC, I loved dating in the summertime. For some reason, it just seemed the men were significantly more attractive between June and September, and more people were out and about and not hibernating in their apartments. Since summer goes by fast, it’s good to take advantage of everything this carefree season has to offer, especially when it comes to dating.
This is not the time to go to dinner and the movies. I mean, yes, dinner is fine, but let’s step out and do something different. Summer dating should be spontaneous and fun!
1. Act Like Kids Again
Relive your childhood summer memories with your date. Find a fair or carnival, ride the ferris wheel (and maybe pray that it gets stuck up top for a little lip-lock action), eat the cotton candy and act like a kid again. It’s a way to let loose and not take yourselves too seriously.
2. Go For A Dip
Whether it’s the ocean, a lake or a pool, there’s no reason to pass up the chance to go swimming with your date. Grab your bathing suits and enjoy the day poolside with vodka-lemonades in hand.
3. Go Biking
Rent a couple of bikes for the day and enjoy whatever city you’re in. Go explore and act like tourists. Stop along the way at cute restaurants and boutiques.
4. Take A Day Trip
Depending on where you live, you can get in the car or hop on the train and go even just 30 or so minutes away to a different town or a beach and explore somewhere you’ve never been.
5. Pick Fruit
Strawberries, anyone? Go fruit-picking with your date for a fun and undeniably adorable date with your sweetheart. Get creative and use your fruit to make a delicious dessert once you get back home.
6. Have A Water Balloon Fight
Remember how much you loved water balloon fights as a kid? Well, they’re just as fun when you’re an adult. Buy a bunch of water balloons, fill them up and go at it. It’s fun, flirty and keeps you cool in the summer heat!
7. Rent A Boat
Keep cool on the water by renting a boat or kayak, if that’s possible near where you live. It’s a great way to get outdoors and be active while still feeling relaxed.
8. Plan An Ice Cream Tour
Make a list of the best ice cream parlors in your city or town, and hit them all up. Granted, you might not be able to eat ice cream all day long, but if you each share a kid size at the places you go, it’s not only more affordable and practical, but flirtatious, too.
